Peggy Porschen at Whimsical Cakehouse

Last weekend I had a ‘cake’ moment and not only met but learnt from the wonderful Peggy Porschen.

Linda Harden of Whimsical Cakehouse in Dolans Bay was the host for Peggy who taught a series of classes at her cake decorating Academy.

My weekend was spent learning sugar flowers including hydrangea, roses and anenomonies. This was not the first time I had encountered the sugar art of Peggy, a few years ago I had the pleasure of creating her sister-in-laws wedding cake and Peggy’s beautiful flowers adorned the cake.

I have been creating sugar flowers for many years but like other people in the industry I like to get out of the kitchen and take a class to learn new techniques and mix with other cake people.

Saturday night after the first day of my course I and attended the launch of Boutique Baking, Peggy’s new book. Boutique Baking is gorgeous from cover to cover, it is filled with so many recipes I want to try that I just don’t know where to start!

Also, I couldn’t resist and took along some of the cupcakes we created for Taste of Sydney for morning tea, a hit of sugary goodness is needed to get through a long day of learning!

I can’t wait to share more of my learning experiences with you all throughout the year!

Central Coast Weddings: Trojans HQ Open Day

The Sweetest Things is excited to be participating in the Open Day being hosted by the talented crew from Mr Catering at their gorgeous venue Trojans HQ located at The Haven Terrigal on Sunday 12 February 2012.

You will enjoy tunes from DJ Magoos, stunning florals by Angel Blooms and Blueberry Events will be transforming the space with their decorations.

Of course the day would not be complete without a tempting offer! Mr Catering will provide a decorating package for all bookings taken on or prior to the event when you book either the Styleor Excellence table service catering.

Mr Catering will be showcasing their venueand you will enjoy canapes with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine while taking in the stunning view out to the ocean.

{Tea Lovers Unite} T2 Tea Tasting at The Sweetest Things

We are excited to be hosting our first T2 Tea Tasting at our store!

There will be a selection of hot and iced tea’s from T2 to try, sweet bites to eat and goodie bags filled with tea goodness thanks to T2 who kindly supplied samples. Of course no goodie bag is complete without something sweet so there will be a sweet little surprise in there from us!

Our staff will be there to talk you through all things tea and everyone will be given tasting notes of the tea’s on offer and ‘how to brew’ information.

We Heart Pinterest

Here at The Sweetest Things we heart Pinterest in a BIG way. Morning, noon and night we can be found pinning everything inspirational that crosses our internet path.

Obviously we love weddings and our boards reflect that love. You can find inspiration in almost anything for wedding cakes so we have boards that cover everything from Venues to Wedding Gowns.

2012 for The Sweetest Things

Happy New Year from The Sweetest Things

What a year 2011 was for us. We created many cakes for fantastic clients, showcased at MasterChef Live, our store and cafe was busier than ever and Julie and her daughter Amy who is our lovely Store Manager jetted off to NY for a much needed holiday and of course Julie had to fit a cake course in with one of her favourite cake creators Elisa Strauss of Confetti Cakes.

So, what do we have planned for 2012? We have big things in store for this year including:

Cake Tasting Day’s. We will be hosting these regularly throughout the year starting with our first tasting on 21 January 2012. Click here to see our events page for all the dates and details.
You can see us at Taste of Sydney between 8 – 11th March 2012. Tickets can be boughthere.
We will again be at Masterchef Live between 7 – 9th October 2012. Tickets can be bought here.
We will be hosting the Mad Hatter Tea Party again with The Reef. Details to come later in the year.

Of course we have a few surprises up our sleeve and you will have to keep an eye on our blog and pop over and subscribe to our newsletter to be updated on all events, new stock, cupcakes and more.
